I was thinking that instead of the Monthly Themes of December and January we should have a group contest.(It`s been long since we had a contest)
For that reason I made this journal ... so we can come up with a CONTEST THEME & maybe some offers for prizes; if you are able to give any sort of prize(points/subscriptions, journal/news features, lamas, comments/critique etc) we would gladly appreciate it.

The 10%+ Addendum and The Tortoise and the HareMy two works, The 10%+ Addendum and The Tortoise and the Hare, are now available in print.
The 10%+ Addendum is now in its second edition. It is the original Addendum reformatted into RGB color. This book contains the sequel to 10%+, as well as a whimsical aside and a full style appendix.
The Tortoise and the Hare is a NofNA-styled adaptation of Aesop's original fable. A tortoise challenges a fast and boisterous hare to a race. Originally drafted in Canada years ago, this is the only traditionally-drawn NofNA arc thus far, planned as a stapled book. This put a limit on the number of pages available for story development, something which necessitated a different style of storytelling. It was a refreshing challenge.

Better than a DD.Better than a DD.
I have to say that I am shocked. I wasn't this much surprised for a long time. Even my latest DD, the one I got almost two years ago, didn't surprise me this much. I guess that some works may become extremely popular for no reason, just because of few conducive factors occuring in one special moment. Like - for example - big thumbnails' implementation in dA's galleries, or many people with same associations, liking same movies. The outcome is that a piece i didn't even want to publish gets more attention than my two DDs gathered together, twice as much faves as my more popular DD and in a short time I have in my message center over 2,000 new messages I cannot even answer. The world is crazy.

Common problemAlmost every single "group" I have checked out has posted a gentle reminder , or a rule , or a rant, or a diatribe of screaming rage,  to the effect:
"Put your damn art into the right folder or it will be declined, we are not kidding"
Some are even nastier about it.
  This is the fault of the lay-out design of the "submit to group" page.
I have often put things into the wrong folder because I am always in a hurry, and it is VERY easy to do!
The "submit to group" page is badly designed. It is laid out in a way that I almost always hit the more obvious "Submit" button before I remember that there is probably a hidden drop down folder menu -somewhere- that I am supposed to chose from.
   I am sure this is why so many group submissions from people end up in a default folder, usually "featured". I really don't  think everyone is doing this intentionally to bug group moderators!
DA needs to make the "submit-to-groups" harder for nitwits like mysel
character sheetsDo you folks who have a  comic/ graphic novel/ whatever you call 'em   -actually draw character sheets out , and really use them?  I  mean, the formal kind of character sheet, where you carefully draw each character in full from three sides??
I don't...Maybe this is my problem...They give me claustrophobia. I hate having things defined.
I figured that sort of thing is only needed when you are working with a group of people, and you need to all stay together on what you are doing.

Let’s get objective folks. Right down to the technical. I could list off several reasons why your comic is failing but you could sit there and deny them all because, hey, it’s subjective. It’s all opinion, right? But today, we’re going to focus on the physical and undeniable.
Yup, we’re doing some math today. Now I know the majority of you probably aren’t math people (I’m an English major myself) but we’ll keep this simple. So there are 7 days a week, 4 weeks in a month. Easy to keep track of right? Well how many pages do you produce a week? How many pages do you produce a month?
Realistically, a person with a life is probably making a page (one, single, not plural) every 2 weeks or so. That’s about 2 pages a month, or 24 pages a year. But let’s not forget there are people who do maybe 1 page a month, so 12 a year.

Obsessive Character DisorderI'm not exactly sure why there appears to be such a warzone where characters are concerned.  Maybe it's just because I don't swim in the soup of fandom or fanfiction (and in a roleplay sense, have only returned recently), but I guess I just find the whole thing entirely baffling.  Roleplay and fanfiction become these massive tiers of Serious Business that are destructive to the creative process. They stagnate and shame while simultaneously churning out high emotion, all the while distracting anyone who wants to learn from shit that will actually be useful to them if they want to write.
I feel the need to give a disclaimer that A) I think fandoms can be incredibly stupid even at their best, B) fanfiction that is "not horribly written" is usually being labeled as such by people who don't and can't know better because their point of reference and experiences are so lacking, and C) even as a writer, I don't understand how character becomes such Serious Business.

1. Do your damn research. I can't stress this enough.  We live in the freaking Information Age, and the concept of Googling is an alien one to too many people.  While I could easily go on a rant about anti-intellectualism, I'll rein it in and say that cliché' is largely anachronistic.  People use them because they're familiar, not necessarily what's true. When I started world-building for my Western steampunk/cattlepunk trilogy, one of the characters was the equivalent of a Chinese immigrant worker.  So I read everything I could get my hands on about what it was like to be a Chinese immigrant worker.  Wikipedia articles, fiction, and non-fiction.  I also read authors like Lawrence Yep

I have recently gotten quite a few people interested in Commissions so i figured i would give my information on here too.
COMMISSIONS:
I do animals and can do anthro art too. I charge 30$ for large animals (wolves, dragons, anthro animals) and 20$ for smaller (cats, weasels, ect.). Unfortunately, in Russia the problem get Paypal. There is no legal way, illegal expensive and stressful. Therefore, I use Western Union. Their offices are in every city. It's easy.
